I started transitioning to a slower pace this week by relaxing and organizing my spaces. I created a few easy-flow spaces for my various interests. There are many, including making body care and essential oil-related products; photography, multiple methods of weaving, sewing, and jewelry design; and – with my husband’s help- a woodworking workshop. I have varying degrees of experience in these areas of interest, so many things I begin dabbling into will be experimental.
Someone may read this list of items and wonder how I consider this slowing down, but I find myself in the zone when creating, so I don’t believe their work. Plus, I can take my time with the process instead of being pressured by deadlines.
While cleaning and organizing, I came up with a few easy projects. The first two items are natural insect treatments – an insect-repellent body spray and a lavender-mint body soap. I enjoy making these products because it allows me to control what I put on my body. I have sensitive skin, so I have to be careful with chemicals used in store-purchased items. The soap-making process is especially intriguing because the recipe for essential soap is simple (oil, water, and lye). Still, there are countless ways to formulate a unique bar. I also take pride in seeing and using the finished product once it’s cured in a few weeks. This is my first attempt at making the bug-repellent body spray. Still, it includes a blend of essential oils known to help ward off the pesky biting creatures, like the soap.
What are your creative outlets or interest? Do any of you make your own soaps or other body care products?
